teens just wanna hang out... on myspace 

dana boyd interviewed on the subject of teens which post 'pornographic' pictures of themselves on myspace. the interviewer makes sweeping assumptions as to the character of a 16 year old who was found guilty of putting up a naked picture of herself. he is baffled throughout the interview as to why teens use social networking sites instead of "talking to each other over the phone" or in person. predictably, he only considers its validity (myspace) once boyd answers that teens aren't allowed out much because of security reasons - hence myspace being more important as a hangout. ah, the ol' terror discourse, his tone immediately changes "that's interesting"...
